Ladies of Destiny Program is a women empowerment initiative supporting child mothers and widows in Northern Uganda. It seeks to empower and improve the livelihood of the underprivileged, marginalized and vulnerable young mothers in the community with much of our attention on protection and promotion of economic rights and wellbeing of young women.
Besides the fact that young girls were raped, forcefully recruited as child soldiers by LRA and the higher level of poverty as a result of the decades of war, payment of dowry makes women to be treated like men’s properties causing much reported violence against girls and women in part of Africa including Northern Uganda.
Across the world women shoulder a disproportionate share of unpaid care and domestic work, causing one of the biggest gender economic gaps between men and women. The case is worse in post conflict Northern Uganda.
Our target is to empower Child Mothers, single mothers and able widows with economic viable skills training, business training and startup funds, establishment of Village Saving and Loan Scheme in order to ensure economic freedom and ensure ownership of properties.
We have supported over 100 Child Mothers through Destiny Institute of Social Development.
